An evening of fun will be easy to find this winter thanks to the laugh-out-loud comedy Plaza Suite, being performed Feb. 18, 19, 25 and 26 at the Portsmouth LIttle Theatre, under the direction of Jerry O'Bannion.

As one of Neil Simon's most beloved stories and, Plaza Suite features three separate stories tied together by location Suite 719 of the famous New York Plaza Hotel. Each story shares a common theme as well, with three different couples looking at life, love and marriage from very different perspectives in the elusive pursuit of happiness.

While their house is being painted, a suburban couple takes the suite and discovers it is the one where they honeymooned. The next to stay in the suite is a Hollywood producer, hoping to arrange a dalliance with his high school sweetheart. She has bigger plans than that however, despite his three failed marriages. The last couple is a mother and a father fighting about the best way to get their daughter out of the bathroom and downstairs to the ballroom where her wedding guests await.

Please join us this winter and join in on the fun.

Upcoming Auditions | "Working" from the book by Studs Terkel

Feb. 22 & 23 (7 p.m. both nights)

When Pulitzer Prize-winning author Studs Terkel wrote "Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do," reviewers from New York to L. A. raved about it. So much so, "Working" went on to receive a National Book Award nomination.

Terkel had interviewed people throughout the United States about working, their jobs, its frustrations and rewards. Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso adapted the book to create an appropriate narrative string for a "hit musical" which opened in 1978. The songs were created by Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Mary Rodgers and Susan Birkenhead, Stephen Schwartz and James Taylor.

This Portsmouth LIttle Theatre invites you to help fill the cast in this production that features 9 actors, supported by an additional 910-member chorus and will be directed by Randy Warman. Mr. Warman will be casting between 18 and 20 individuals in a broad range of ages. Those auditioning should be very
capable of singing. Dancing is not a prerequisite, but Mr. Warman warns that those cast should be able to perform simple steps while singing. Those interested in auditioning should be prepared to give a vocal singing audition. There will be an accompanist present. They should bring their own sheet music or they may bring a tape or CD for their accompaniment.

An invitation to get involved

Community theatre is a team effort. We need you! We need your talents, skills and abilities to assure that each production is a success. Each show involves weeks of effort by dozens of people -- and not just those with acting or artistic skills, but people with the practical ability to sew a hem, swing a hammer, or simply push a broom. Much of what makes each prodcution a success isn't glamorous, but is essential. That's right!, you don't have to be "on-stage" to be part of our prodctions. If you've ever wanted to get invovled, now's the time. Talk to a PLT board member, send us a note, or drop by our next audition. We would be happy to help you find your place as a member of the PLT family.
